How is Metro Meadow different from a traditional green roof?

Traditionally, plants are installed on a green roof from tube stock planting and are allowed to grow to full plant coverage over time. Metro Meadow is an instant green roof. It is designed to be installed quickly and easily for complete plant coverage. This means you’ll be able to access all of the benefits of green roofs from the time of installation.

What are the benefits of Metro Meadow?

Metro Meadow is an instant green roof. It provides instant green coverage, meaning you can enjoy the aesthetic and environmental benefits of green roofs from the time of installation. Installation itself is fast and simple, meaning a green roof can be completed quickly and easily.

How is Metro Meadow installed?

The installation of Metro Meadow is quick and easy. Mats are delivered in 1 x 1m rolls. These can be transported to the rooftop, unrolled, and placed flat on pre-installed rooftop soil. Mats are to be watered after placed on a rooftop.  

What kind of maintenance does Metro Meadow need?

Metro Meadow comes as a pre-established mat system so will need less start-up maintenance than a green roof planted with plugged plants. Monitor weekly for the first 6-8 weeks to ensure the irrigation scheme is appropriate. Adjust irrigation seasonally as necessary. Weed green roof twice per year.

Will Metro Meadow have flowers all year round?

The plants in Metro Meadow will be green year-round with flushes of flowers from Spring to Autumn.

Can I request specific plants?

The Metro Meadow plants are designed to withstand the shallow soils and harsh growing conditions on a rooftop. We’re happy to work with you to incorporate additional plants within the design constraints of the rooftop.
